  • George Thorogood And The Destroyers

When George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers burst onto the national scene in 1977, roots rock music was all but absent from contemporary radio. Yet, the focus and excitement that George brought to the classic songs of his idols such as Chuck Berry, Elmore James, and Jimmy Reed was undeniable. Rounder Records had its first hit artist and the late 1978 release of his second album soon had Thorogood s interpretations of Bo Diddley s Who Do You Love? and Hank Williams Move It On Over blanketing the airwaves. On July 30, 2013, Rounder Records will re-release Thorogood s first two albums, 1977 s George Thorogood and 1978 s Move It On Over. The band s stamina in its early years is legendary. In 1981, just before opening 11 dates for the Rolling Stones (and later their 1982 European tour), G... [Read More]

  • Bad to the Bone

The Destroyers have been called a glorified bar band, yet they deserve credit for introducing '80s mainstreamers to early rockers such as Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. They also reintroduced classic blues forms to rock radio, only in a little more electrified form. Hell, they even electrified Hank Williams's "Move It On Over." The aforementioned artists are all represented on this compilation, which in many ways also displays how much Thorogood's songs owe to the originals. The Thorogood-penned title cut, for instance, owes an unmistakable debt to Bo Diddley (who appeared in the video). And when Thorogood sandwiches John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" between his own "I Drink Alone" and "If You Don't Stop Drinkin'," it tough to miss the connection. If you buy only one Thoro... [Read More]

  • George Thorogood & Destroyers (Vinyl)

Its easy enough to trace the lineage of every one of the ten cuts on George Thorogood & the Destroyers self-titled 1977 debut. Even the originals, of which there are only two, wear their influences on their sleeve, so theres not a minute of this album where the presence of Hound Dog Taylor, Elmore James, Bo Diddley, and John Lee Hooker loom large. Not one of those bluesmen ever played with much finesse, and Thorogood picked up that thread and ran with it, playing so hard the group seemed like a gang of primitives. No wonder they chose the name

The quot;first takequot; of the bands debut album featuring Thorogoods original trio - Thorogood on vocals, electric guitar, harmonica, Ron Smith on guitar and Jeff Simon on drums - the album features Thorogoods first incarnation of the then George Thorogood and The Delaware Destroyers, modeled on Hound Dog Taylors format-two guitars and drums. The actual studio album that was later released in 1977 included bass player Bill Blough, who joined the band several months after the first raw sessions took place. The decision was made to overdub Bill onto the existing tracks for the
