How does a simple piece of wood become the king of instruments? The violin does something remarkable, magical, and evocative. It is capable of bringing to life the mathematical marvels of Bach, the moan of a Gypsy melody, the wounded dignity of Beethoven's Concerto in D Major. No other instrument is steeped in such a rich brew of myth and lore—and yet the making of a violin starts with a simple block of wood. The Violin Maker takes the reader on a journey as that block of wood, in the hands of a master craftsman, becomes an instrument to rival one made by the greatest master of all time. How does a simple piece of wood become a violin, the king of instruments? Watch and find out as Eugene Drucker, a member of the world–renowned Emerson String Quartet, commissions Sam Zygmuntowicz, a Brooklyn craftsman, to make him a new violin. As he tells this extraordinary story, journalist John Marchese shares the rich lore of this beloved instrument and illuminates an art that has barely changed since the Renaissance. Marchese takes readers from start to finish as Zygmuntowicz builds the violin, from the first selection of the wood, to the cutting of the back and belly, through the carving of the scroll and the fingerboard, to the placement of the sound peg. Though much of the story takes place in the craftsman's museum–like Brooklyn workshop, there are side trips across the river... [Read More] Best American Violin Makers
Dragons & Violins is a narrative nonfiction account of the tumultuous early life of George Edgar, who was born in Persia (now Iran) at a time when Turks & Kurds were determinedly carrying out unimaginable violence against Assyrian, Armenian and Pontic Greek Christians. Born Sargis Georges Yadgar, George Edgar's Assyrian family escaped to southern Russia, where they were caught up in the chaos of World War I and the Russian revolution and civil war. The Remo Fiberskyn 3 Frame Drum features a wide body shell and a thumb notch with four holes located around the circumference of the Acoustic on shell. The four holes are placed in a manner allowing the use of many materials such as rope, string, leather or vinyl strips to create a handle that would suspend the drum and increase the projection when struck with a mallet or hand. All frame drums are equipped with a Remo drumhead and are manufactured with Remo’s patented Acoustic on shell that produces the same tonal characteristic found on traditional wood shell drums with excellent projection and enhanced low-pitched fundamentals. The end result is a light weight, durable, weather-resistant and easy to play frame drum for countless hours of jamming. Best American Violin Makers
As far as I am concerned tortilla maker needs to be from Mexico since they know what its supposed to do. This is great quality and very nice and heavy duty. You will love it. They sometimes have a yellow tint and sometimes are grey color from the factory as you can see from the pictures. Since these are imported from Mexico we don't have control over what color we will get. Thank you Best American Violin Makers

Violin maestro Daniel Jacobus gets to the bottom of a deadly theme at a prestigious—and corrupt—conservatory. When reclusive, blind violin pedagogue Daniel Jacobus is invited to speak at a seemingly innocuous symposium on Baroque music at a prestigious music conservatory, he has no idea he is about to become enmeshed in an entrenched culture of sexual harassment and its cover-up at the highest levels. And when a renowned faculty member dies of apparent natural causes, only the curious behavior of a violin student at Jacobus’s master class is an indication to him that something may be terribly amiss in this “very good entry in a reliable series” (Booklist), in which “readers will enjoy spending time in the company of the curmudgeonly Jacobus, and many will welcome the abs...
