Best known for his songwriting, country folk singer Joe South scored a huge hit in 1970 with “Games People Play” and again in 1971 with “Rose Garden,” a monster hit for Lynn Anderson. Also a prominent sideman, South lent his skills to a wide array of artists from Bob Dylan to Aretha Franklin. South won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1970 for Games People Play (Introspect album) and was again nominated for the award in 1972 for Rose Garden. Artists who have recorded South-penned songs include Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, The Georgia Satellites, Hank Williams Jr. And Ike & Tina Turner. Joe South was also a prominent sideman, playing guitar on Tommy Roes Sheila, Bob Dylans Blonde on Blonde album and the classic tremolo intro on Best Of Joe Budden Joe South (CD)
